I've seen so many different suggestions on how to apply your skincare. What goes first, how much you should use, where you should use it and on and on. I want to share my step by step when it comes to the skincare process. It seems tideous but most people don't know and want to. Let's begin.

I always start with removing my makeup. I typically use an oil cleanser to remove it but you can use wipes, micellar water or whatever you typically use. If I did not wear makeup that day, I use a precleanse (oil based) to start the cleansing process. I believe in double washing your face because the first cleanse helps break down the dirt and oil and the second cleanse, washes it away.  After I've removed my makeup or done my precleanse I go into my cleanser.

My next step is sometimes a scrub. When I do a scrub I usually only do it 1-2 times a week. The reason I do not scrub all the time is because I want to make sure not to over exfoliate my skin and cause it to be irritated. Also, I use other tools like the dermaflash, which if paired with a scrub could cause severe inflammation and soreness. So I am mindful to listen to my skin and make sure not to beat it up. Whether I scrub or not, my next step is to use a toner. I like my toner as my last ditch effort to get rid of any excess dirt. It really helps me feel squeaky clean. Toner also balances the skin.

Following my toner I spot treat if needed, only at night. If I have a breakout I will apply a topical product to treat my zit so it doesn't last forever. Then, I go into my serum. I often use a collagen serum or a retinol one. Collagen helps with the elasticity of the skin, keeping the skin youthful and retinol prevents wrinkles, smooths and brightens the skin. Both are amazing and both should be in your daily routine.
After my serums settle in I go for my eye cream. I take my dab and smooth it around my entire eye. I let that melt into the skin and then I go into my moisturizer. If I am going to bed, I end with my facial oil. If my day has just begun, I apply my facial oil and then top it off with my SPF. I use SPF EVERYDAY! SPF is extremely important to provide protection from sun damage which can cause your skin to sag and stretch. Ya'll better stop playing!

So that is the order. I use the method I learned when I first got into skincare, use the lightest products to the heaviest when you start your process after the cleanse and always finish with SPF.
Below is also a portion chart for your products. Your skincare products should last you a long time. Using more of a product does not make it work better or more effective. A dab will do, just a dab or two.

Happy Skincare Sunday!
