"An empty lantern provides no light."

A couple of years ago one of the biggest life lessons I learned was saying no to others, in order to say yes to myself. I was coming out of an extremely draining season in my life and I was afforded the time to reflect. I looked back at all the times I said yes to someone and in my heart needed to decline. I thought about how many times I said yes to "save" a relationship. Or agreed to do something because I didn't want to let anyone down. We spend so much of our lives trying to please others even if it means damaging ourselves. What's even more mind blowing is a lot of those people we make that sacrifice for, would never do the same in return.

"An empty lantern provides no light."

It dawned on me that I have to come first. Just like for you, you come first.
Saying no, is my right. Saying no, is my decision. Saying no, is my choice. Saying no, is a complete sentence.
Saying no allows me to say yes to peace. Saying no allows me to refill my tank. Saying no allows me to be happy.

#dearEveryone "An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly."
